Dogwood Church is dedicated to the vision set by our church leadership to be a Living Proof of a Loving God to a Watching World. As part of this vision, using the Holy Bible as our standard, will follow the command of Jesus Christ to make disciples of the Nations, known as The Great Commission. In Acts 1:8, Jesus commands the apostles to “be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

At Dogwood, we may we implement Christ’s command as follows:

Supporting ministries in our own church as well as those in Athens, Texas and surrounding areas.

This area is defined as areas outside of North East Texas, but within the state of Texas.

These are under-evangelized areas within and outside of the United States, including South America, Europe, and most of Africa.

Ends of the Earth:
This area includes people groups with little or no access to the Gospel. These areas are generally in North Africa, the Middle East, Northern India, and Asia, an area often called “The Resistant Belt” or “The Last Frontier”. This area is also frequently referred to as the “10-40 window” because it falls between 10 and 40 degrees north of the Equator. It contains the largest population of non-Christians in the world.

At Dogwood, we aim to equip its members to fulfill the biblical mandate of going into the entire world, will support its members both prayerfully and financially, and will deploy them to engage in the ministry to which God has called them.

Here are a few of our mission opportunities:

American Heritage Girls

American Heritage Girls was founded in 1995 in West Chester, Ohio by a group of parents wanting a wholesome program for their daughters. These parents were disillusioned with the increasing secular focus of existing organizations for girls. They wanted a Judeo-Christian focused organization for their daughters and believed that other parents were looking for the same for their daughters. This became the catalyst for the birth of the organization we have come to know as the American Heritage Girls. AHG is seen as a Christ-centered alternative to Girl Scouts.  Click the American Heritage Girls logo or here to find out more about this great organization!

Bill Glass Champions for Life Prison Ministry

We’ve been involved with Bill Glass Champions for Life prison ministry for a number of years, and continue to send volunteers to Bill Glass events held in East Texas. A few annual events that we regularly participate in are: ministry to various units in Texas and the Weekend of Champions @ Huntsville in November.  Volunteers generally spend a day or two at a specific unit, encouraging and sharing the Gospel with inmates. Prison ministry is a great way to share God’s love with those who often don’t receive much love.

Call 2 Recovery

If you are recovering from ANY form of addiction, Call 2 Recovery can help! It’s too much for us to do alone, but there is ONE who has ALL POWER – that ONE is GOD! May you find him now!

The Call 2 Recovery Ministry is truly a labor of love – they run SOLELY off of the hard work of volunteers and are blessed to see this ministry growing in an awesome way! Call 2 Recovery Ministry meets Tuesday & Friday evenings from 6:30 pm — 7:30 pm.

Compassion International

The Youth ministry, through weekly donations, are sponsoring a child named Brian from Kenya. Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.

Founded by the Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education and health care, as well as Christian training.

Today, Compassion helps more than 1.2 million children in 26 countries.

Military Bible Sticks

Through Faith Comes By Hearing’s Military BibleStick project, our nation’s troops are hearing the Word of God while on (or preparing for) deployment. The Military BibleStick is a digital audio player that is pre-loaded with a dramatized recording of the entire New Testament and over 65 minutes of select Psalms.

Chaplains from every branch of the military are flooding Faith Comes By Hearing with requests. More than 427,000 of these Audio Bibles are now in the field. Over 1,440 chaplains use Military BibleSticks in pre-deployment briefings, counseling sessions, Bible studies, weekly chapels and other spiritual services.

Good News. Great Joy.

Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced God’s love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan’s Purse works with local churches and ministry partners to deliver the gifts and share the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ. At Dogwood, we piece together over 300 boxes to ship overseas to those who may have never received a Christmas Gift!

The Rainbow Room

The Rainbow Room is an emergency resource center for abused and neglected children in Henderson County that are served by Child Protective Services. Through the generous donations of individuals, companies and foundations, they help approximately 600 children a year. When children are removed from a home due to abuse or neglect, they usually leave with only the clothes they are wearing….that’s where the Rainbow Room steps in, helping to fill their needs as they transition to foster care. Every dollar or Rainbow Room bag they receive makes the difference in the life of a Henderson County child. We hope you will partner with us and them as we continue to help these children.
